About

Hessle ward occupies a western segment of the East Riding of Yorkshire, situated on the northern bank of the Humber Estuary. The area includes the town of Hessle itself, along with the neighbouring village of North Ferriby. Its geography is defined by the estuary frontage and the rising ground of the Humber Bridge's northern approach. Land use is a mix of residential communities, local commercial centres, and areas of open green space along the waterfront.

The Humber Bridge, with its main northern anchorage located here, is a dominant feature of the landscape. The area contains sections of the Humber Estuary foreshore and the long-distance footpath, the Yorkshire Wolds Way, begins its route nearby. Hessle ward has historical significance, with the Neolithic Ferriby Boats, some of the oldest known sewn-plank vessels in the world, discovered on its foreshore.
