About

Heswall is a town on the western side of the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, sitting on higher ground above the Dee Estuary. The centre is formed around Telegraph Road and the village shopping area, with independent shops, cafés, a library and a market garden supply. Several primary and secondary schools serve the locality and local buses link to Birkenhead and West Kirby. The town is administered by the Metropolitan Borough of Wirral and was historically in Cheshire.

Wooded slopes and fields lead down from the town to saltmarsh and mudflats at the estuary; the stretch of heath known as Heswall Dales is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its sandstone heathland and lichen communities. From higher streets there are regular views across the Dee Estuary to the Clwydian Hills. Housing ranges from Victorian terraces to postwar estates, and community facilities include sports clubs, a small theatre venue and a civic hall that hosts local events.
