Kingswood is a large residential suburb located in the northern part of Kingston upon Hull. The area is primarily characterised by extensive housing developments, including many post-war and more modern estates, with a significant amount of semi-detached and detached homes. It functions mainly as a commuter area, with retail parks and local shopping centres serving the community's everyday needs. The ward includes the neighbourhoods of Bransholme and North Bransholme, which are distinct in their layout and housing stock from the newer parts of Kingswood.

The geography is largely flat and open, with the Holderness Drain running through the area. Kingswood boasts one of the largest retail parks in the region, a major employment and shopping hub that defines much of its eastern boundary.
