About

Lisburn and Castlereagh is a local government district in Northern Ireland, created in 2015 and covering parts of Counties Antrim and Down. The district contains the city of Lisburn, the suburban area of Castlereagh and villages including Moira and Hillsborough. The River Lagan runs through the area, forming valley parkland and riverside routes close to Lisburn city centre. Rail services on the Belfast–Dublin mainline call at stations within the district, linking local communities to the wider region.

Industry and public life sit alongside longstanding rural land. Bow Street in Lisburn houses the Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum, which document the city’s 18th- and 19th-century role in linen production. Hillsborough village has a Georgian castle with gardens that open for public and official use, centred on a traditional village square. Local government is provided by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council, which manages planning, parks and community facilities across a mix of urban streets, suburban neighbourhoods and farmland, with river and canal-side routes used for recreation and commuting.
