About

Llandeilo, Llangadog and Maenordeilo sit in the Tywi valley of Carmarthenshire, linked by lanes and the Heart of Wales railway. Llandeilo is a small market town on the River Towy with a regular market, narrow streets and a mix of medieval and Georgian buildings. The town fronts the river and the remnants of Dinefwr estate are close at hand, where a castle mound and Newton House mark long occupation. The Towy is a working river here, used by anglers pursuing salmon and sewin in season.

A few miles north, Llangadog occupies a gap in the hills and has a station on the Heart of Wales Line; freight and passenger trains stop beside the village. Maenordeilo sits close to Llandeilo as a cluster of farms and cottages, linked by lanes, field boundaries and stone walls. Farming remains the main land use, and the landscape bears traces of older routes and stone bridges that channel streams into the Towy.
