About

Llanfairpwll sits on the eastern side of Anglesey beside the Menai Strait. The village centre is set around the old parish church and the railway station, where the station sign displays the full long place name that draws attention from passing trains. Streets contain local shops, a primary school and residential terraces that follow the slipways down to the water. Regular passenger trains link the village to Holyhead and the mainland, and the shoreline here shows the tidal rise and fall of the strait.

Menai Bridge occupies a narrow gap on the same stretch of water and takes its name from the suspension bridge completed by Thomas Telford in 1826, which carries the main road across the strait. The town fronts a marina and small quays used by local boats, and footpaths run along the shore where currents in the Swellies can be observed at changing tides. A mix of houses, cafés and maritime workshops sit close to the bridge, and views focus on river traffic, bridge structure and the working shoreline rather than distant landmarks.
