Llanidloes, Blaen Hafren & Llandinam

Llanidloes sits where the River Severn runs through a tight town centre of streets and lanes. The Old Market Hall projects over the pavement and marks a long history of local trade; narrow streets around it still carry shops, civic buildings and the layout of a market town. The river is visible in several places as it leaves the hills, and small bridges and weirs are part of the townscape. Community life continues around markets, rowing clubs and local festivals that use the town centre and riverbank spaces.

Blaen Hafren occupies the high ground around the Severn’s beginnings on Plynlimon, where streams join to form the river that will travel roughly 220 miles to the Bristol Channel. The uplands here give way to pasture and wooded river valleys as you move toward Llandinam, a village on the Severn with a 19th‑century industrial history and links to David Davies of Llandinam. Llandinam Bridge crosses the river and local lanes connect farms, small hamlets and river paths used for walking and fishing along this central Powys stretch.
