About

Marske is a coastal village in Redcar and Cleveland on the North Sea. The shoreline at Marske Sands includes a long stretch of pebbles and a concrete promenade that runs along the seafront, with a stepped sea wall and rock pools exposed at low tide. The village grew from fishing and small-scale coastal trade; traces of that past remain in the layout of streets near the shore and in place names. St Germain’s Church stands inland from the promenade and has Norman fabric in the nave, marking a long continuity of settlement on the site.

The centre of Marske contains a mix of local shops, a primary school, sports playing fields and a railway station on the regional line, which gives regular rail access without leaving the village. Marske Hall and its adjacent parkland sit at the northern edge of the settlement and are visible from several local streets. Community groups run amateur football, bowls and walking activities, and seasonal events take place on the seafront and in village halls.
