Meads

Meads is a neighbourhood to the west of Eastbourne town centre, running along the seafront. The area is mainly residential, with streets made up of late-Victorian and Edwardian houses and a designated conservation area. The seafront here is a broad shingle beach backed by a continuous promenade; cast-iron shelters and timber groynes mark the shoreline. Small public gardens and set-piece terraces step up from the promenade toward the residential streets, and the grid of lanes gives the area a clear pattern that reflects its development in the late 19th century.

Local services are concentrated in short parades and around junctions with the main coastal road, while buses link Meads to the town centre and the railway station. Footpaths from the northern streets drop down to the seafront and provide direct routes onto the lower slopes of the South Downs, making walks into the countryside straightforward. For residents the area provides ready access to Eastbourne's central facilities while retaining a neighbourly street layout and a long stretch of undeveloped shoreline.
