Methley is a village in the City of Leeds, West Yorkshire, lying to the south‑east of Leeds city centre and close to the border with Wakefield. The River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation run near the village, and the alignment of former railway lines and collieries can still be read in the local landscape. Methley developed around these transport links; the place name and field patterns reflect a mix of agricultural land and sites once used for coal and rail freight.

The village retains a village centre with a primary school, a village hall and playing fields, and St Oswald’s Church stands at the heart of the settlement, with parts that date back to the medieval period.
