About

Mid Suffolk lies in central Suffolk in the East of England, an area of rolling farmland, hedgerows and small woodlands punctuated by market towns. Stowmarket is the largest town; Needham Market, Eye, Debenham, Mendlesham and Woolpit are other centres. The River Gipping runs through Stowmarket and Needham Market, and a network of lanes and public footpaths links villages and commons. Farming and food-related businesses shape much of the land use, with scattered industrial estates and business parks clustered around the larger towns.

Local life is shaped by markets, parish churches and community halls, and by a small set of heritage sites. Close to Wetheringsett the preserved Mid-Suffolk Light Railway museum occupies part of the old Brockford station site, and the Mendlesham transmitting station is a local landmark on the skyline. Conservation areas, village greens and long-distance rights of way support walking and wildlife watching, while local services in the towns provide schools, shops and transport links for residents across the district.
