Middleton-on-Sea is a coastal village situated between Bognor Regis and Littlehampton in the Arun district. The area is characterised by a mix of residential housing, with many properties having direct access to the shingle beach. The shoreline is backed by a grassy promenade and a line of beach huts, providing a focal point for local walks. The village centre contains a few local shops and services catering to residents.

The built environment includes both older, more established homes and newer developments. A notable feature is the presence of the former RAF Middleton-on-Sea, a Second World War airfield site, parts of which have been repurposed for housing. The area is bounded by the Elmer sand dunes to the east and the River Arun to the west. Much of the local activity revolves around the beach and the nearby golf course.
