Morpeth North & Pegswood

Morpeth North & Pegswood covers the northern part of Morpeth and the neighbouring village of Pegswood. The River Wansbeck runs through Morpeth and shapes the town centre, where a mix of independent shops, a weekly market and civic services sit close to riverside paths. Regular rail services link Morpeth with Newcastle and other towns, and local primary schools, shops and a leisure centre serve households across the ward. Parts of the area include post-war and more recent housing estates that meet agricultural land on the town’s edges.

Pegswood lies a short distance south of Morpeth and grew around coal working in the 19th and 20th centuries; the village retains street patterns and green spaces that reflect that history. Community halls, sports pitches and local shops are focused around the village centre, while surrounding fields and small woodlands give routes for walking and cycling. The ward combines town amenities with village-scale community life and visible traces of the county’s mining past.
