About

New Brighton sits at the north-eastern tip of the Wirral Peninsula, facing the mouth of the River Mersey and the Irish Sea. The seafront is defined by a long promenade, a Marine Lake used for sailing and water sports, and stretches of sand that appear and disappear with the tide. Close to the shoreline, Fort Perch Rock and the adjacent Perch Rock Lighthouse stand on a rock outcrop at the river entrance; the fort now houses local displays and occasional events. The Floral Pavilion theatre sits on the esplanade and hosts performances and community programmes through the year.

The town centre contains a mix of shops, cafes and housing that step back from the waterfront toward Wallasey village. New Brighton railway station is the terminus of the Wirral Line, providing a direct rail link to other parts of the peninsula. Coastal paths run north and south from the promenade, used for walking and cycling, and the marine environment supports regular sailing, windsurfing and birdwatching at low tide. Local lifeboat and harbour activity is part of the working shoreline.
