Northallerton Town & Romanby

Northallerton is the county town of North Yorkshire, located in the Hambleton district where the High Street climbs toward County Hall and St Oswald’s Church. The Cod Beck runs close to the town centre and Romanby lies immediately to the west and north-west, separated by the beck and by the A167/A684 road corridor. The town retains a long market tradition with stalls along the High Street and a regular market day. Local services include primary and secondary schools, health facilities and a cluster of independent shops and civic buildings that reflect its role as the administrative centre for the surrounding agricultural area.

Romanby is principally residential and linked to Northallerton by several pedestrian bridges and minor lanes; it contains playing fields, a community hall and clubs for cricket and bowls. Northallerton railway station on the East Coast Main Line provides rail links to York and Newcastle and the town sits at the junction of regional routes, making it a local transport hub. Agricultural land and smallholdings spread out quickly beyond the built-up area, giving the town a clear edge where fields meet housing.
