About

Oakridge and Castlefield form a small cluster of settlements in Buckinghamshire set among arable fields and mixed woodland. The plan is a loose scatter of farmsteads, 20th-century housing and older cottages grouped around a green and a village hall. A short ridge lined with mature oaks gives Oakridge its name and marks the western edge of the settlement; lanes drop from that ridge into low pasture and drain into a minor stream. Public footpaths and bridleways link fields and hedgerows, and a single local pub and primary school provide community centres.

Across the lane, Castlefield opens onto strips of pasture where traces of ridge-and-furrow survive as low hollows in winter crops. A straight parish bank runs along one boundary and is used as a reference point on many local walks. Woodland strips and coppiced beech shelter birds and bats, and small ponds gather amphibians in spring. The area is worked farmland with a local pattern of hedged fields, narrow lanes and scattered trees that still guide movement and land use from one season to the next.
