Old Town & Motcombe

Old Town occupies the original village core of Eastbourne, centred on the parish church of St Mary. Narrow lanes and a short village street still reflect a street pattern that predates Victorian seafront development, and a handful of independent shops, cafes and traditional pubs serve the local population. Motcombe lies immediately to the north-west and is primarily residential, with a mix of terraces and semi‑detached houses and a number of small public greens and playing fields that local people use for informal sport and walking.

Local life is organised around a community hall, school sites and sports pitches, with regular bus links into Eastbourne town centre and the main railway station. Street trees and pocket parks provide breaks in the housing, and the church at the heart of Old Town remains a landmark for local events and notices. Everyday services, short shopping runs and evening venues can all be reached on foot from the area’s core, which still reads as a compact village grafted onto the larger town.
