About

Orpington South is a ward in the London Borough of Bromley centred on the southern part of Orpington town centre. The area is anchored by Orpington railway station, which provides regular Southeastern services into central London and toward Sevenoaks. The High Street and the enclosed Walnuts shopping centre run close to the station and contain shops, cafés and the public library, alongside municipal and health facilities. Town-centre streets mix commercial frontages with short pedestrian routes and surface car parks.
South of the centre the ward gives way to residential streets, with a mix of early 20th-century houses, later suburban terraces and newer apartment blocks clustered near transport links. Small green spaces such as Priory Gardens sit within walking distance of the High Street and host local events and play areas. Local history appears in street names and community notices, and the town’s name lives on beyond the map in the poultry breed called the Orpington, bred locally in the late 19th century.
