Pallion

Pallion lies on the southern bank of the River Wear, forming a distinct urban ward within Sunderland. The area is primarily residential, characterised by terraced housing and local shopping parades along its main thoroughfares. Its industrial past is evident in the remaining riverside structures and the layout of the streets. The ward includes the large Pallion Metro station, a key transport interchange for the southern parts of the city.

The district is home to the National Glass Centre, a major cultural venue and university faculty dedicated to the material, reflecting the city's historic manufacturing strength. Open green spaces are found at Hylton Castle Playing Fields to the west. The area functions as a residential gateway to the wider river estuary, with the Queen Alexandra Bridge providing a fixed link across the water to the north.
