About

Pen-y-groes is a village within the Nantlle Valley, situated between the peaks of the Eifionydd hills and the shores of the Afon Llyfni. The area developed significantly in the 19th century around the slate industry and local quarries. Its layout reflects this industrial past, with terraced housing built for workers. The ward includes the neighbouring village of Llanllyfni, connected by the main road that runs through the valley floor.

The local economy has diversified from its historical base. The landscape is defined by former quarry sites and the presence of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) visible to the east. Community life centres on local schools, chapels, and shops along the high street. The area is a through-route for traffic heading towards the Llŷn Peninsula, linking the coastal and inland parts of Gwynedd.
