Peterston-super-Ely & Wenvoe

Peterston-super-Ely sits beside the River Ely in the Vale of Glamorgan, its village street and surrounding farmland forming a compact settlement. The parish church of St Peter has medieval fabric and stands close to the river, while a conservation area preserves a mix of cottages, stone boundary walls and farmsteads. The river valley creates low-lying meadows and ditches that shape field patterns and local footpaths. The community retains an agricultural character, with small holdings, hedgerows and lanes linking scattered hamlets.

Wenvoe occupies higher ground to the south, centred on a village green and St Mary’s parish church. The landscape rises to Wenvoe Hill, the site of the tall broadcasting mast that marks the skyline and provides a fixed point for local orientation. The estate of Wenvoe Castle survives in part as walled gardens and a golf course laid out within former parkland. Local geology of limestone outcrops and small quarries appears in hedgebanks and older walls, and lanes connect farms, nurseries and village facilities.
