About

Pont-y-clun and Llanharry are neighbouring settlements in the rural west of Rhondda Cynon Taf. The area is defined by the Ely River, which runs between them, and is surrounded by rolling farmland. Historically, the local economy was linked to the Llanharry iron ore mine, which closed in the 1970s. Today, the area functions largely as a residential community with good road links to Cardiff and the M4 motorway.

The landscape is characterised by former mining spoil tips now reclaimed by greenery. Pont-y-clun has a small commercial centre along Cowbridge Road, while Llanharry retains a more village-like atmosphere centred around its church and community hall. The area is known for its active rugby club, Pontyclun RFC, which fields multiple senior and junior teams. Remnants of the industrial past, like the old mine manager's house, stand alongside newer housing developments.
