About

Radyr, Morganstown and Gwaelod-y-garth form a compact set of villages on Cardiff’s northwestern edge. Radyr sits alongside the River Taff and is served by Radyr railway station on the Cardiff–Valleys line, giving easy rail links to the city. The Taff Trail follows the river through the area and connects parks, cycle paths and the Radyr Sidings local nature reserve, where a mix of wetland and scrub supports birds and amphibians. Morganstown (Treforgan) lies immediately south of Radyr and keeps a village green, community hall and a tight cluster of shops and services used by local residents.

Gwaelod-y-garth occupies the lower slopes of the Garth, a conical hill whose outline is visible from much of northwest Cardiff. Footpaths rise from the lanes of Gwaelod-y-garth and Radyr into woods and across open ground; walkers reach the Garth summit and return by well-worn rights of way. Local life revolves around small community institutions, school provision and outdoor recreation rather than large visitor attractions, and everyday travel tends to follow the valley corridor along the Taff into the city.
