Rassau and Garnlydan

Rassau and Garnlydan form a largely residential ward in the northern part of the Blaenau Gwent county borough. The area is characterised by terraced housing and newer estates built on the valley slopes, with the surrounding upland moors providing a distinct backdrop. It is a community with strong local ties, centred around its own primary schools, community centres, and social clubs.

A notable local landmark is the large, domed Rassau Industrial Estate, a major employment site visible from much of the area. The landscape is marked by the prominent Garnlydan Reservoir, which supplies water to much of South Wales. The Taf Fechan river flows through the ward, and the area is traversed by several old tramway and railway routes, reflecting its historical links to the iron and coal industries.
