About

Scarborough town occupies a sweep of coastline in North Yorkshire with two main bays separated by a rocky headland topped by Scarborough Castle. The town centre spreads down to the South Bay promenade where the Spa complex and a sandy beach meet the harbour and fishing quays. Narrow streets of the Old Town lead to the harbour, the Rotunda Museum sits on the cliffs with a geology collection, and ferry and fishing activity remain visible from the esplanade.

North Bay lies to the north of the castle headland and includes a long stretch of seafront, cliff-lined Marine Drive and family attractions. A 20-inch gauge North Bay Railway runs along the coast toward Scalby Mills, and Peasholm Park opens off the seafront with a circular boating lake and tree-lined paths. Amusement arcades, promenades and cliff walks provide direct access to the beaches, while small local businesses and seasonal events shape the seafront year round.
