Scotswood

Scotswood lies on the north bank of the River Tyne, west of Newcastle's city centre. Historically a hub for heavy industry and shipbuilding, its landscape is now characterised by modern housing developments and regenerated green spaces along the riverside. The area is directly connected to the south bank via the Scotswood Bridge, facilitating travel. Residential streets mix older terraced homes with newer estates, reflecting its ongoing transformation from its industrial past.

A prominent local feature is the community-run Scotswood Garden, a large urban nature project focused on local food growing and biodiversity. The area is served by the Tyne and Wear Metro at Scotswood station, providing direct links into central Newcastle. Remnants of its industrial heritage can be seen in the remaining structures and pathways that follow the old railway lines, now used for walking and cycling along the river corridor.
