Sculcoates

Sculcoates lies to the north-east of Kingston upon Hull city centre, beside the River Hull. The area contains a mix of terraced housing, interwar council estates and former industrial yards that grew up in the 19th century to serve river trade. Local shops, primary schools and community facilities are concentrated along the main routes and small commercial streets. Public transport links connect Sculcoates to the city centre and to freight routes that still serve parts of Hull's port.

The name Sculcoates dates to an ancient parish and survives today in the local ward. Street patterns and several surviving warehouse shells record the area's role in handling goods from the Humber estuary; one visible trace is a run of tightly packed terraces that step down toward the riverbank, built for workers at nearby wharves. Ongoing projects balance reuse of former industrial sites with housing needs, and local groups maintain allotments and community hubs used by residents.
