About

Selby South sits on the banks of the River Ouse and takes in the southern part of Selby town, where Selby Abbey, founded in the 11th–12th century, anchors the centre. The ward includes the town high street, local shops and civic services, and links outward along public footpaths that follow river meadows. Brayton lies immediately to the south and is reached by short lanes and paths; the area known locally as Brayton Barff, a small wooded ridge and scrub, offers views back over the town and is crossed by marked walks used by residents.

Barlow is a smaller settlement set amid farmland to the west of Selby, with a pattern of hedgerows, lanes and footpaths that join it to neighbouring villages. Farming, householder allotments and a scattering of cottages shape much of the land use, while community facilities and village clubs centre activity within the two villages. Together the three places form a mix of town services and rural access with direct links to the river landscape around Selby.
