Shiremoor

Shiremoor is a residential ward located in the northern part of North Tyneside, bordering the borough of Northumberland. The area is primarily composed of housing estates, with a mix of semi-detached and terraced homes built throughout the 20th century. Local amenities are centred along the main roads, providing essential shops and services for the community. The ward includes the separate village of West Allotment, which retains its own historical identity.

The landscape is characterised by open green spaces, including Shiremoor Park and the grounds of the former St. Mary’s Hospital. A notable local feature is the preserved Shiremoor War Memorial, which stands as a community focal point. The area is well-connected by the Tyne and Wear Metro, with Shiremoor station providing direct links to Newcastle upon Tyne and the coast. The nearby Rising Sun Country Park offers extensive walking paths on the ward's southern edge.
