About

Skegness sits on the Lincolnshire coast in the East Lindsey district, facing The Wash. The town centre runs from the promenade inland, with a sandy beach, a pier and a line of groynes along the shore that meet regular beach-nourishment work. The seafront contains arcades, cafes and the RNLI station that launches from the foreshore. The town is often associated with the early 20th-century Jolly Fisherman poster and the slogan “Skegness is so bracing,” which appears in local signage and souvenir trade across the high street and seafront outlets.

Skegness expanded as a seaside resort after the arrival of the railway in the 1870s, and the station still provides direct links toward Boston and inland towns. The town centre combines market stalls, independent shops and year-round services that support a seasonal visitor economy. Residential streets and local schools lie a short walk from the esplanade, and the council-managed open spaces on the seaward side host events and community gatherings through the summer months.
