About

Skewen and Jersey Marine sit on the north shore of Swansea Bay within Neath Port Talbot. Skewen is a village with local shops, a primary school, and a rugby club that anchors community life. The area grew through coal and tinplate work in the 19th and 20th centuries, and traces of that industrial past are woven into street names and former worksites now given over to housing and small businesses. Regular bus services connect the village with Neath and Swansea, and local footpaths link green spaces used for walking and recreation.

Jersey Marine occupies the short coastal strip beside the bay, with stretches of sand backed by dunes and salt marsh. The Wales Coast Path runs along the shoreline here, offering direct access to the beach. Behind the coast the wetland known as Crymlyn Bog forms a patchwork of reedbeds, peat and open water, supporting species found in very few other places on the Welsh coast. Small car parks and signposted paths make the shore and the adjoining reserve accessible for walkers and birdwatchers.
