South Hampstead is a residential ward in northwest Camden, bordered by the Finchley Road to the east and West Hampstead to the west. The area is characterised by Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses, mansion blocks, and garden squares. Its streets are largely residential, with local commerce concentrated along parts of Finchley Road and West End Lane.

The ward includes the Swiss Cottage area, known for its namesake library and leisure centre. It is served by several transport links, including the London Overground at South Hampstead station. The area contains a number of schools and is adjacent to the green space of Primrose Hill, though the hill itself lies just outside the ward's boundary.
