The village of Bosham is located on a tidal creek of Chichester Harbour. Its high street runs directly to the water's edge, where boats rest on the mud at low tide. The stone church, partly dating to the Saxon period, is also subject to the tides.

Thorney Island is connected to the mainland by a narrow causeway. It is largely occupied by a military base and an active airfield, with a public footpath following the perimeter of the island along the sea wall. This path offers views across the water to the Chichester Harbour channels and salt marshes.
