St Arvans is a ward in the far south of Monmouthshire, bordering the city of Newport. The area is largely rural, characterised by rolling farmland and the steep, wooded valleys of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village itself is a small, linear settlement situated along a ridge, with the main A466 road running through it. The landscape is defined by its proximity to the River Wye, which forms the western boundary.

A notable local landmark is the Piercefield Walks, an 18th-century landscape park with dramatic cliff-top paths overlooking the Wye. The ward includes the site of the former St Arvans paper mill, which operated on the riverbank for over a century.
