About

Starcross sits on the western bank of the Exe Estuary, directly across from Exmouth. The area is defined by its low-lying position beside the water, with views across to the long sand spit of Dawlish Warren. The railway line runs prominently along the shore here, connecting to the historic Brunel Atmospheric Railway station building, a remnant of a unique 19th-century engineering experiment.

Inland, Exminster lies on slightly higher ground, characterised by a more traditional village layout centred around its long main street and church. The landscape transitions to the flat, reclaimed marshes of the Exe floodplain, a patchwork of grazing pastures crisscrossed by drainage channels. The Exeter Canal and the M5 motorway both pass through the parish, marking a clear boundary between the village and the open estuarine wetlands to the south.
