About

Pangbourne sits on the Thames in West Berkshire where the River Pang meets the main river, giving the village its name and a network of backwaters and millstreams. The riverside stretch includes boathouses, a village green and a mix of shops and inns beside the Thames Path. Pangbourne College and the village railway station are on the edge of the settlement; trains on the Great Western line provide direct links toward Reading and Oxford. Small tributary channels and slipways shape the local boating and walking routes, and a regular stream of day visitors uses the towpath and ferry points to access the riverbank.

Streatley occupies the foot of the Chiltern escarpment above the Berkshire bank, with chalk downland at Lardon Chase, the Holies and Lough Down rising immediately behind the village. A road and foot bridge spans the Thames here to the opposite bank and the narrow river valley known as the Goring Gap is visible from several lanes and footpaths. Local lanes, public footpaths and riverside walks connect fields, small woodlands and viewpoints that are used for short circular walks and longer sections of the Thames Path.
