About

Titchfield is a village in the Fareham area set beside the River Meon. The village centre is built around the remains of Titchfield Abbey and the parish church of St Peter and St Paul, with a mix of lanes, a small high street and older stone buildings. Close to the abbey you can still see earthworks and water-filled depressions that mark the medieval fishponds once used by the religious house, a reminder of how the river and its channels shaped local life.

Titchfield Common lies immediately north of the village as a block of former common land made up of heath, grassland, scrub and small pockets of woodland, crossed by a network of public paths and bridleways. Ponds and seasonally wet hollows punctuate the ground and are used by local people for walking, riding and nature study. Management has kept the open areas intact so the common still functions as a local green space and a working landscape with grazing records that stretch back through the maps and deeds of the parish.
