About

Torpoint is located on the Rame Peninsula, across the Hamoaze estuary from Plymouth. The town is defined by its ferry links, with three chain-operated vessels providing a constant connection to Devon. The area is largely residential, with neighbourhoods extending inland from the waterfront.

The surrounding landscape consists of creeks and inlets branching off the River Lynher. A large part of the local economy is associated with the presence of HMNB Devonport across the water. The area's extensive network of 19th-century military defences, like those at nearby Maker Heights, are a legacy of this strategic position.
