Upwell & Delph

The Upwell & Delph ward is a predominantly rural area in the southeastern corner of the borough. Its landscape is defined by the low-lying, reclaimed fenland, characterised by expansive, flat agricultural fields dissected by a dense network of drainage channels and rivers. The settlement pattern consists of several separate villages and hamlets, including Upwell, Outwell, and Nordelph, rather than a single central town. The area's economy and scenery are heavily influenced by its agricultural use and intricate water management systems.

A key feature of the local infrastructure is the Middle Level Navigations, a significant system of navigable waterways used for drainage and transport. The historic Well Creek, which forms part of this network, runs through the villages and is crossed by several functional lifting bridges. The ward's geography places it near the border with Cambridgeshire, and its communities have a distinct identity shaped by the unique demands and history of living and farming in the Fens.
