About

Valence ward lies in the western part of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. It is primarily a residential area characterised by terraced and semi-detached housing from the interwar and post-war periods. The ward includes the Becontree Heath area and is bordered by Chadwell Heath to the north. Its main thoroughfares include Valence Avenue and Wood Lane, which provide local shopping parades and bus routes connecting to surrounding districts.

The area contains several green spaces, with Valence Park being a central recreational ground featuring sports facilities and a children's playground. Valence House Museum, situated within the park's grounds, is a timber-framed manor dating back to the 13th century, now housing the borough's local history archives and collections. This historic site stands in contrast to the predominantly 20th-century housing that defines much of the ward's built environment.
