About

Wadebridge is a market town in north Cornwall on the banks of the River Camel. The settlement grew around a stone bridge built to replace a ford, and the structure that gave the town its name still crosses the tidal river near the town centre. A traffic-free route known as the Camel Trail runs along a disused railway line beside the river through Wadebridge, used by walkers and cyclists and serving as a practical link between the riverside, shops and schools. The town has a working quay area upstream where small boats use the river at high tide.

Main Street and the adjoining lanes contain an assortment of independent shops, cafes and services that support surrounding farms and villages. Regular markets and community events make the town a local hub for trade and social life. Public transport links connect Wadebridge with other parts of Cornwall, while cycle hire and waymarked paths make it easy to explore the river corridor and nearby countryside on foot or bike. Local conservation groups work to manage the riverbanks and saltmarsh close to town.
