West Kirby

West Kirby sits at the northwestern tip of the Wirral Peninsula, bordering the Irish Sea. The area is defined by its coastal setting, centred around a marine lake popular for sailing and windsurfing. The town's layout extends from the shoreline inland, with residential streets leading up to the lower slopes of Caldy Hill. Its promenade provides a direct and open connection to the sea, facing the distant mountains of North Wales across the estuary.

A broad tidal sandbank, known as the West Kirby Marine Lake, is encircled by a concrete walkway used by joggers and walkers. At low tide, the Dee estuary recedes to expose extensive sands, allowing for walks to the small islands of Little and Hilbre. This regular tidal movement dictates the local rhythm, with access to the islands being dependent on the daily schedule.
