Whitehawk sits on the eastern side of Brighton and Hove, on the slopes just north of the seafront. The area grew around a 1930s council housing estate and is now a mix of terraced streets, later housing and small shopping parades along Whitehawk Road. Local facilities include a primary school, a community centre, a library, and clubs for sport and recreation; Whitehawk F.C. plays in the neighbourhood and contributes to local activity. Day-to-day life is centered on short streets and small green spaces rather than a single high street.

Above the estate, Whitehawk Hill is an open, chalk slope with archaeological earthworks known as Whitehawk Camp, a Neolithic causewayed enclosure where bank and ditch lines are still visible on the hillside. Allotments and small parks sit around the lower slopes, linking the residential area to the hill and giving residents straightforward access to one of the city’s recognisable archaeological features.
