About

Widdrington, Lynemouth & Hadston is a parish on the Northumberland coast that combines a short coastal strip with low-lying farmland. The three settlements sit close together: Widdrington set back from the shore, Lynemouth at the coast and Hadston between them. The ground runs from sandy dune systems and saltmarsh to rectangular agricultural fields. Earthworks and remnant tree belts mark the site of the old Widdrington country house and its park, and narrow lanes link farmsteads and village streets rather than large throughroads.

Signs of a 19th‑ and 20th‑century industrial past remain around Lynemouth in the form of former pits and works, alongside active farms and small local businesses. Community life is organised around village halls, a parish council, a few shops and bus services. Footpaths and tracks give access to the shoreline and inland fields, where shorebirds and waders use tidelines and puddles, and where the pattern of former estate boundaries can still be read in hedgerows and field shapes.
