Wivenhoe & University

Wivenhoe and the University of Essex Colchester Campus sit along the north bank of the River Colne, where village streets meet parkland. The university occupies Wivenhoe Park, with its lake, Wivenhoe House country house and teaching and research buildings such as the Colchester campus library. Student residences, departmental blocks and green spaces are woven into the park, so campus life and village life overlap on footpaths that run to the quay and through wooded rides.

The village retains a working riverside: boatyards, small berths and quayside businesses trace a long history of shipbuilding and repair on the Colne. A railway station on the line into Colchester provides regular services to the town and beyond, and local shops, pubs and studios serve both residents and students.
