Aldersgate

Aldersgate ward covers the northwestern section of the City of London, stretching from the Barbican Centre north to the border with Islington. Its area is defined by major thoroughfares like Aldersgate Street and Goswell Road. The ward contains significant portions of the Barbican Estate, a renowned residential and cultural complex of concrete towers and terraces built in the mid-20th century. The Museum of London, documenting the city's history, is also located here before its planned relocation.

The ward's landscape is a distinct mix of post-war architecture and surviving historical elements, such as sections of the Roman London Wall. It functions as a residential enclave within the financial district, with the Barbican's arts facilities providing a central focus. The street pattern still follows some ancient boundaries, and the area includes modern office developments alongside the estate's elevated walkways and lakeside terraces.
