Caerau

Caerau is a community located in the Llynfi Valley, northwest of Bridgend town centre. The area is residential, with housing primarily consisting of terraced and semi-detached homes built during the 20th century. It sits on the hillside above the valley floor, with streets offering views across the surrounding landscape. The local geography is defined by its position within the former South Wales coalfield.

The area's history is closely linked to coal mining, with the Caerau Colliery being a major employer until its closure. Remnants of this industrial past can be seen in the landscape. A notable local feature is the large, ancient Caerau Hillfort, an Iron Age settlement whose earthworks overlook the modern village, providing a direct link to a much older history.
