Caerau

Caerau is a community ward located north of Bridgend town, situated within the Llynfi Valley. The area is primarily residential, with housing spread across the valley sides and a more concentrated centre near the main road. Its landscape is defined by the surrounding green hills, with older terraced housing and more modern developments. The ward's history is closely linked to the coal mining industry, which once dominated the local economy and shaped its development.

A notable local feature is the large, grassy mound of Caerau Hillfort, an ancient Iron Age settlement that overlooks the community. The area includes facilities like a community centre and primary school, serving the local population. Transport links follow the valley, with the A4061 providing a key route. The former colliery sites have been largely reclaimed by nature, with some areas now used for recreation.
