About

Caergwrle ward sits in the eastern part of Flintshire, bordering Wrexham County Borough. The area is centred on the large village of Caergwrle itself, with the smaller community of Abermorddu also within its boundaries. The landscape is characterised by the gentle slopes of Hope Mountain to the south and the course of the River Alyn, which flows through the ward.

The settlement is dominated by the prominent ruins of Caergwrle Castle, a 13th-century fortification built on an ancient hillfort site. The ward is primarily residential, with local commerce focused along the main road through the villages. A notable local feature is the preserved Bronze Age mould for a ceremonial axe, discovered in the area and now a replica of which is displayed near the castle grounds.
