About

Caersws is a ward centred around the village of the same name, located in a broad section of the valley of the River Severn. The area is largely defined by its agricultural land and its position as a transport junction, where the Cambrian Line railway and the A470 road converge. This has historically made it a local service point for the surrounding rural communities.

The landscape is a mix of river meadows and rising ground towards the edges of the valley. A notable feature is the large, flat area known as Caersws Roman Fort, which is one of the most significant Roman military sites in mid Wales. The remains are now visible as extensive earthworks in fields near the village, speaking to its long-standing strategic importance in the region.
